Dr. Sakhi John

Dr. Sakhi John is an academician and professional in the public health sector.  Currently, he is a Professor and heads the Health Informatics Management Department at the Jamia Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Delhi.

He is also the recipient of awards, accolades and certificates galore, such as : The  Judge George Paracken Memorial Social Impact Award for Outstanding Social Contribution jointly presented by the Legal Society of India and the Kidney Federation of India.

The ‘Bharat Judo Award’ – 2018 for Social Impact and the ‘Adma Prabha’ for valuable contribution towards society, to name just a few.

But lest anyone think that Dr. John’s achievements are limited to just impressive professional credentials and the recognitions he has received, s/he is advised to just banish the thought.

There’s yet another dimension to him as a deeply committed social activist, worker and leader who quietly and efficiently reacts to tough situations around him, observes and understands the challenges and pain which an average person on the street faces, deeply empathises with them and constantly strives to comes up ways to help bring about a change for the better.

How often does one meet a person who, ignoring his/her well-endowed position in society, constantly strives to touch and change the lives of the needy, distressed and the  downtrodden sections?

Dr. John is one such epitome of selfless service, an angel in the real sense of the word who donated one of his kidneys to  a total stranger, Shaju Paul, who works as a bus cleaner and lives in a village in Kerala’s Thrissur district. When asked about his act of charity, Dr. John just said, “Christ dwells in me…who makes me do all this.”

During these difficult times when the novel coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc across India and the rest of the world, Dr. John remains busy for 18-19 hours a day in arranging oxygen cylinders for the ailing people and coordinating to ensure that patients who need life-saving plasma get timely help from donors. These activities are being carried out as part of the Pran-Vayu  project that has saved numerous lives.

He is an active member of the Delhi-based Distress Management Collective of India (DMCI), that has been focusing on Covid-control measures in the national capital. It is also exploring the possibility of setting up oxygen parlours in Kerala by sending across 40 oxygen concentrators.

To the countless people among whom he works daily, Dr. John is no less than a living saint who understands and empathises with them.  People who have lost their loved ones and are deeply affected by the tragic loss tend to go into depression and anxiety very easily. To help such grief-stricken people, he arranges counsellors and therapists to provide them timely healing services for emotional and psychological wellness. The Marhamm project of EEF provides counselling and timely attention to people whom Dr. John identifies and refers, among others.

He has also spearheaded numerous informal schools for children from the underprivileged sections of society wherein their manifold needs for literacy and food are met. The EEF’s Vidhya project and volunteers benefit greatly from his presence.

His Telemedicine initiative also caters to sections of society which lack access to high quality medical services.

Dr. John also as a member of DMCI is collaborating with HeARTshala – an alternative livelihood program for women at the infamous GB Road where the didisto are making cloth masks with love. HeARTshala is a product tailoring initiative of Kat-Katha and Dr. Sakhi John is helping them as ‘Marketing Executive’. Kudos!!

The Ek Ehsaas Foundation (EEF) is proud to have Dr. Sakhi John on board and looks forward to benefiting  from his expertise in the near future to help this organisation scale great heights in reaching out and helping the needy.

Dr. Sakhi John is indeed a blessing unto EEF. The EEF tribe  salutes  and treasure his august presence.
God bless
